Coastal Subtropical

The coastal environment is one of the harshest landscape environments. Plant selection is limited due to high wind, salt spray and lack of water. Plants for the seaward side of this Takapuna property were selected for their resilient nature to all of the latter.

Their architectural form and size was also a consideration so as not to impede the view out to the sea. The more protected areas to the rear of the property allowed for more soft larger leaf plants.

The covered courtyard with a plunge pool in the centre of this home lends itself to more tropical plantings.

Construction materials are also subjected to this salty and corrosive environment.

The use of quality hardwoods, cedar and masonry products along with marine grade stainless steel fixings will ensure longevity in the Coastal environment.
